Alex’s passion for visual storytelling follows his earlier background in photography. Working in film and TV, Alex has shot a diverse range of shorts, adverts, and band promos.
Entity, starring Dervla Kirwan and Charlotte Riley, is Alex’s second feature as DoP. It is expected to be released in the UK in 2013, having already been successfully received in the US via Fangoria, including via iTunes distribution. It was recently awarded Best Horror and Best Low Budget Film at the 2013 London Independent Film Awards.
Shorts have included the multi-award winning Mr Bojagi, starring Brian Blessed and Hildegard Neil. This was awarded the British Lion Award for best achievement in independent cinema, and Best Actor awards, at the British Independent Film Festival 2010. The film also received the Jury Award at the London Independent Film Festival 2010.
Commercial clients have ranged from TyPhoo Tea to Agent Provocateur. In 2013 Alex travelled to Kyrgystan to support a joint production between the BBC and the Kyrgy National Television and Radio Broadcasting Corporation, for which he operated second camera. He has also gaffered a number of features, including In Our Name (Artificial Eye) and Dementamania (Green Screen Studios).
An owner-operator of both a Red Scarlet and Canon EOS based cameras, Alex has experience with a wide range of formats from 35mm to digital. He has also worked as a camera operator, assistant, and DIT, and has gaffered a number of feature films. Alex holds an unrestricted passport, and is an insured owner/driver with a full UK driving licence.
